At 12:50 a.m., a Bedford County Sheriff’s deputy observed a Ford Fusion on Thomas Jefferson Road being driven in a reckless manner. The deputy stopped the vehicle and as he was exiting his patrol vehicle the Fusion sped away. At that time the deputy notified dispatchers he was in pursuit of the vehicle. The Fusion traveled onto 460 and headed east into Campbell County and the City of Lynchburg. Lynchburg Police became involved in the pursuit and deployed spike strips which deflated one of the front tires of the Fusion. The vehicle continued traveling east on 460 passing through Campbell County into Appomattox County. During the pursuit deputies observed an object being thrown from the vehicle. Deputies deployed a second set of spike strips deflating the other front tire. The vehicle came to a stop at 1:47 a.m. in the 17000 block of Richmond Highway (460). Deputies removed the driver from the Fusion and identified him as Justin L. Carroll, age 35, of Pamplin.
Carroll was arrested and transported to the Bedford Adult Detention Center. He was charged with felony eluding police, driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license. He is being held on no bond.
